Hi Tom et all,
Thank you for this so interesting topic.
In Vietnam, before receiving anything, you should share yourself.
In this case, when you are a FOSS admin or expert, and you would like to get salary information, I think you know what you should do here.
I work for iWay, an FOSS related IT firm, based in Hanoi.
Additionally, I work as part time administrator for some US, AU companies with salary about $7 - $10 per hour.
Hope someone can share this kind of information to help you, me and all of us have a good view.
Kind regards,
Tuan TRUONG

Subject: [HanoiLUG] [Off Topic ?] FOSS salaries in VN
Hello LUGers,
First, I've been on this list for months now and was convinced it was a
super-low traffic list... until I checked my .procmailrc. Oh well. Now
at least I know why I'm always the last to know.
My first meeting was the one with the Intel guys present, but I hope to
make many more.
Second, and I hope this is not too terribly off-topic:
In the spirit of "FOSS at work" I'm wondering what typical salaries are
for Vietnamese FOSS experts. Given that Vietnam is a fairly strong MS
shop, does that mean that MySQL DBAs and Linux Admins are unwanted and
thus paid less than point-and-click admins? Or does the same principle
apply as elsewhere: admins and coders from the FOSS side are usually
more competent than their MSCE counterparts and as such are generally
paid better?
Looking at figures on vietnamworks.com is a fairly uninstructive way of
finding out what quality people get paid, so if anyone has any real
world knowledge of this I'd love to hear about it.
Best regards,
Tom
