Yes, there is no French support anyway (not enough space for it) so I
simply removed it. And English is still only here because I can't remove
it! ;-)

> 1) After installation (Vietnamese selected, no more update-grub bug as it is solved) completed and reboot OK. Although no choice made of language but GNOME got automatically into English environment (instead of Vietnamese).
Mhhh... This one is quite annoying... In fact GDM is looking for locale
in "/etc/environement", but now Ubuntu really did put them in
"/etc/default/locale" !

This one should be corrected in Gutsy.

> 2) Adding language support not possible : to made it possible, I had to change the software sources, select an appropriate (fast) internet server and reload the list of packages (problems with downloading the list of packages from http://apt.hanoilug.org/).
>
Ok. I think I now why (errors in sources.list after installation) and I
will look for correcting this.

> 3) Then adding language support for English was possible and resulted in the downloading of 15 files (about 21 MB), for GNOME, Mozilla, Thunderbird, etc.
Note that you should not need any of them. The english packages I
removed are for en_GB (Great Britain) or en_ZA (South Africa) english,
still you have en_US installed.

> After that Language support seems complete : possibility to add other languages like French, etc.
Interesting... I didn't see that we don't have French (or other
languages) choice before fully installing the English language... I'll
look for that problem. We are probably missing only one little file with
language list.

> Disconnecting and choosing languages provided a variety of English choices.
>
Yes. And I think we don't need them on this CD (for Vietnamese people)
so that's why I removed them.

> 4) An automatic update alarm indicated the need to download "hanoilug-vietnamese" from version 1.6 to 1.7 (11 files, 21.4 MB)
> I made an AptonCD of all the downloads (> 40 MB).
>
All of these downloads are recommends but not mandatory. That's why they
are not on the CD, still the hanoilug package update will propose you to
download them (but not force you to).

> Conclusion : if you install from the live CD with an internet connection set, it will download at least the extra English package files.
Mhhh... I thought I did manage that one... I'll check again.

> If you do not have internet connection when installing, language support is not complete (I didn't try if I could still work, probably yes,
Yes, it works, I did test it.

> but soon or late... full language support will be needed).
>
Why? It *could* be usefull, but I can't see why it would be *needed*...
Surely it's not needed to run a vietnamese desktop with english
spellcheck and dictionaries (wich are included on the LiveCD). Having
en_US is enough for that.

> EXTRA : Testing multimedia abilities
> (http://www.hanoilug.org/dokuwiki/ubuntu:vi:testing): Canal Géo failed with Mplayer plugin (needs Realmedia ? although it seems installed) ; radio-canada works partially.
>
I did not have time to test everything, so I did test on nhacso.net and
rfi.fr and both of them was working.

Well... Still some work to do!

But I'm not sure if it's better to do a new revision now or to just wait
for the Gutsy release on October 18th, to get most bugs already corrected...

What do *you* people think?
